El GalloNevada TostadaTaqueria serves authentic Mexican street food made from scratch with real, honest ingredients in the heart of SE Woodstock in Portland, Oregon.

We first opened our doors in the Woodstock neighborhood in 2009 as a food cart. The support we received from our customers, neighbors & community has allowed us to expand into a new brick & mortar restaurant space just a few blocks from where we started out as a cart.

In our new restaurant space we strive to provide a warm, friendly environment where people can enjoy real food made from scratch paired with great local beers, wines & ciders with friends from the neighborhood. At El Gallo we maintain our commitment to offering local, sustainable products by frequenting farmer’s markets and sourcing our ingredients from local purveyors who share our commitment to high quality foods. We offer handmade tortillas, locally sourced meats, wild fish, and seasonally organic, locally grown herbs and vegetables.


Each and every tortilla we serve is made from pure masa with no additives or unnatural ingredients and is hand pressed and grilled to perfection when you order it.


Our house salsas and sauces are made from scratch daily and are created to compliment the food we serve. With something for every palate ranging from our mild tomatillo salsa to our scorching MELT YOUR FACE salsa.



Chef/Owner Jake Brown has spent years refining his favorite recipes and traveling throughout Mexico researching new dishes and cooking methods; Jake combines the simplicity of authentic Mexican recipes with fresh, local ingredients to create rich, flavorful dishes.

Jake is a seasoned fine dining chef, having spent time in the kitchens of local favorites such as Genoa, Meriwether’s, Waverly Country Club and Sauce Box. After years in fine dining, Jake decided to focus on his passion for Mexican style street food. In the summer of 2009 El Gallo Taqueria became a reality and has been serving up scrumptious Mexican street food to the local SE community ever since.
